Beyond the CRM: Sizing Up the Market You Can't See
September 22, 2026 | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET
Higher education has spent decades asking the same question: who's on our list?
The better question is who should be.
Most enrollment marketing still begins with a finite universe of names. Inquiry lists, search names, event registrants, CRM records, applicants. That's known demand, and it's a fraction of your actual market. Potential demand is every student with the right age, geography, academic interest, household profile, and behavior who simply hasn't raised a hand yet. Often because they have no idea you exist.
New research makes the gap hard to ignore. AmbioEdu partnered with Clarity EM to survey more than 2,000 high school students across the country about how they stream, scroll, watch, and decide. Forty-seven percent of seniors said they only applied to colleges they had seen advertised. Students are narrowing their consideration sets long before they do anything your CRM can track, and by the time one is comparing net price or scheduling a visit, the shortlist already exists.
This session takes apart the assumptions holding the traditional model together, starting with the belief that a student who isn't on your list isn't interested. You'll leave with a working model for separating known demand from potential demand, a clear view of which one your budget is actually funding, and a sharper read on where students discover colleges in the first place, including the platforms most enrollment teams have written off. Your CRM is a record of who found you.
It was never a map of your market.
